🤔 Why is my contacts list empty?

When you first start using Olvid, your Contacts list is empty — this is completely normal.

Unlike most instant messaging services, Olvid does not rely on a centralised user directory. This approach offers several key advantages:

  • No personal data is shared with us: no phone number, no email address, no first or last name. There is no Olvid account.

  • Your contacts remain private: Olvid never needs access to your phone’s contacts or those in your other applications. Your contacts’ personal information stays entirely confidential between you.

  • You stay in full control: you decide who you connect with. No spam! You can build a network on a human scale and discuss what matters most with the people who matter to you.
