📱💻 Use Olvid on multiple devices
You can use Olvid on multiple devices: computers, mobiles and tablets.
Simultaneous use on multiple devices requires a licence after a one-month free trial. This can be obtained through an in-app purchase within the application or via an activation link provided with the Business offer.
In the Enterprise offer with directory, everything is automated: users registered in their organisation’s directory automatically benefit from the multi-device licence and the ability to make secure calls from their profile managed by the directory.
You can then use your Olvid profile on as many devices as you like.
New messages are automatically synchronised as soon as a device is added.

Existing discussions appear on the new device, but they remain empty until new messages arrive. (Your new device recreates all encrypted channels with your contacts’ devices in order to reopen your discussions.)

Previous messages are not transferred to the new device.

Transferring message history between devices is a separate feature that will be available around Christmas! 🎄

Remember: your discussions and message history only exist on your devices.
Advice
- We strongly recommend that you activate your Olvid profile on a second device as soon as possible. This will allow you to easily re-import your profile if you change or lose your primary device and will serve as a backup for your messages.
Import a profile
You can import your Olvid profile from another device.
iPhone iPad

Tap your profile picture at the top left.
The list of your profiles appears.

Tap Add a profile.
The “Add a new profile on this device” screen appears.

Tap Import a profile from another device.

Give your current device a name, then Confirm.

Follow the instructions with the other device nearby and connected to the network.
Android

Tap your profile picture at the top left, then ADD A PROFILE.
The “Add a new profile on this device” screen appears.

Give your current device a name, then Validate.

Add a device
You can connect another device to your Olvid profile.

Select the profile you wish to import on another device and tap Manage current profile.

An 8-digit code is displayed, along with instructions for continuing with the other device.

The “My profile” screen appears.

Troubleshooting
If you were unable to import a profile
Here’s what to do if you were unable to import a profile, if it fails, or if it displays an error message.
- Error 7
- This profile is already present on your new device, as a result of a previous successful import. Here’s how to display the list of your profiles on a device. Your hidden profiles are not displayed in this list.
- Error 5

This error indicates a network connection problem between one of the two devices and our servers.

Repeat the operation on a different network, with different connectivity.

Check with your network administrator or ISP that no specific network restrictions or third-party applications are interfering. For the import to take place, your network must, for example, allow access to the server transfer.olvid.io, TCP:443 (WebSocket in HTTPS).

If the secure channel creation never ends
Here’s what to do if the secure channel creation never ends.
If your profile appears as “inactive”
If your profile appears as inactive on one of your devices even though you think your licence is valid:
iPhone iPad
- Tap your profile photo in the top left corner.
- Select Manage current profile.
- Scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap Refresh status.
Android
- Tap your profile photo in the top left corner, then tap Manage.
- Tap the three vertical dots in the top right corner.
- Tap Refresh status.
Mac
- Tap your profile photo in the top left corner.
- Select Manage current profile.
- Scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap Refresh status.
Windows
- Activate your licence from a mobile device before it expires.

- Activate your licence from a mobile device before it expires.
